Why Choose Saniken Pads

The right sanitary pads equates comfort, health, and confidence.

Below is why Saniken is YOUR SUREST PERIOD PARTNER:

Our Story

Saniken has been a labour of love. We had our individual experiences, which triggered the need to take action way before we came to actualizing Saniken.

Rabecca, an environmentalist with expertise in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), witnessed the massive environmental waste from sugarcane bagasse and the pressing need for a more sustainable way to dispose or recycle.

Faith, a dedicated menstrual health educator, met several young girls who missed school regularly and women who faced stigma and health issues due to a lack of affordable and safe menstrual hygiene products. She understood the critical importance of accessible menstrual products for the health and empowerment of women and girls.

Driven by our shared vision, we decided to take action. We met at an entrepreneurship incubator program, Jasiri, which provided us with the training and resources needed to solve the problem we were so passionate about. With guidance from Jasiri, we received training on how to develop our idea and piloting funds to bring our vision to life.

Together, we founded SANIKEN, a women-led startup focused on producing affordable, high-quality, and eco-friendly sanitary pads. Utilising bagasse—a sugarcane byproduct—and cactus-derived bioplastic, we created a product that not only meets the menstrual hygiene needs of women and girls but also promotes environmental sustainability.

SANIKEN is more than just a business. It’s a movement to break the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation, to empower women and girls to live their lives to the fullest, and to foster a more sustainable and equitable world. With each pad we produce, we are one step closer to a future where every woman and girl can manage her period with dignity and confidence.
